600hp HDT VK Calais Director Tribute

Once 14-year old Robbie Grbavac spotted a Tuxedo Black, HDT VK Calais Director way back when he knew needed to own a car like that. Years later Robbie built himself a tribute that and he's now found his way into the unveil hall at Australia’s premiere custom car show, Meguiar’s MotorEx.

Robbie’s HDT VK went from a slight touchup to a full elite level, bare metal restoration from top to bottom. Exterior wise, the VK rocks a full HDT Calais Director body kit and a mini tubbed rear end with 20-inch Director dished rear wheels.

The custom sheet metal reverse cowl has been built to resemble the original HDT cowl. Sitting under the bonnet is a fully deburred engine bay and a wild five-litre stroker Holden 355ci. Robbie told us that one of the most important features was the late model air-con for those hot summer arvos cruising with the family. Robbie says:

“It’s been a dream for me to own a black VK Calais Director, and here we are today. With 450hp at the back tyres, the car is pretty wild. I just want to get it out and cruise it with the family.”

It’s safe to say Robbie is pretty stoked with the outcome of his VK, and it’s not hard to see why. It was a clear standout in the Unveil Hall at Meguiar’s MotorEx 2022 earlier in the year, and the killer HDT look with the Tuxedo Black paint job and factory blue interior really set this car off - a true look back into the '80s car scene of Australia.
