If not picked up by Mazda in the early 1960s, the Wankel rotary would have surely faded into obscurity but boy are we glad it didn't. The unmistakeable exhaust not of a finely tuned rotor would have to be one of the best mechanical soundtracks around and the one emitted from this particular example as it buzzed into our studio reminded me of just how lucky we are that Mazda showed faith in NSUs failed experiment.

Before it had even rounded the corner, THEBUZ of Con’s RX2 announced its arrival and I knew that it wouldn’t disappoint.

Con has owned a couple of tough rotors in the past but when it came time to build this beautiful RX2, he went all out.

As a spray painter by trade, Con was able to prepare the beautiful coupe’s curves himself but when it came to the driveline, the experts at JC Racing were his only choice.

This example of extend port perfection cranks out a respectable 420hp at the treads, an impressive figure considering it is tuned conservatively for street use.

In an attempt to put this power to the ground Con is running a gorgeous pair of custom 18x10 Simmons at the rear although when the right foot’s flat, they don’t offer too much resistance.

When it came time for Con to leave, we thought we’d follow him for a little bit and give you a sneak peak of what THEBUZ is all about. Crank your volume up to 11 and hear this wild Wankel wail!

You will be able to catch some more detail on Con's car in an upcoming issue of Hot 4s but that is some way off. Until then; scroll back up, press replay and hear the glorious revs of a rotary again and again and again.
