Australia's Fav Car Show

Australia's Fav Car Show

In 2011 Cruise for Charity became the biggest car show in the country, with over 2,000 cars at the Victorian leg of the cruise and over 5,000 Commodores in attendance nation-wide. In 2012 the SC crew will be looking to emulate this success and spread the Cruise for Charity message ever-further, bringing back Australia’s favourite car show for a 9th year in a row. They’ll also be looking to improve on last year's dollar figure raised for the Children's Hospital Foundation Australia (over $100K), this year raising funds for Camp Quality and setting their sights  on a significant increase.

As one of Australia’s oldest car brands, the Holden name is synonymous with the modified car community and has been, well, since there was a modified car community! The late 70s saw the introduction of the Commodore and from there the model grew to become our most loved car, sporadically holding the title of Australia’s bestselling car ever since.

Of course as production numbers grow, so do the number of tough examples modified by enthusiasts and overwhelming aftermarket support saw the Commodore scene swing from strength to strength.

Cruise for Charity is a celebration of this ever expanding group of Holden enthusiasts and has a proud heritage across the country. It attracts Commodores from all walks of life from concourse restorations to daily drivers, drag cars, elite show vehicles and everything in between.

It is the one time of the year that the pages of the magazine can come to life, and gives readers the chance to get up close and personal not only with the cars they’ve lusted over on the pages of the magazines, but chat with the owners that built the vehicles in a relaxed atmosphere, all while raising funds for a very good cause.

2011 saw a group of dedicated Cruise for Charity fans tour the country, clocking up over 10,000km to attend five of the six events around the nation. The movement, spearheaded by the generous duo of Kevin Dowse and Peter Vohradsky, is gaining a cult following and the pair have already started planning, and enlisting others keen to hit the road for C4C9, for their interstate journeys in 2012.

Cruise for Charity is when the big boys come out to play, with 2011 Car of the Year nominee Dean Beattie’s IH83LT and 2009 Car of the Year Adrian’s 2DSIRE both taking to the streets and cruising the route for the Sydney event.

Interstate we attracted cars like Damien’s COTY 2011 Top Engine Bay Winner PRO GRP A VN in Perth, Alex Crisa’s mental 600kW, 9sec MR VLT in Adelaide, a slew of cover and ex-feature cars in Queensland like the blown, stroked R8 GRUNTS, James Halliday’s MPRSIV and a gaggle of Hi Torque-enhanced street terrors.

It was the big day in Melbourne that set the benchmark though, with over 40 ex-feature and cover vehicles attending the biggest ever Cruise for Charity event.

They helped over 2,000 other Commodore drivers raise in excess of $70,000 in one day, and it’s an achievement we feel can only be improved on this year.
