Toyota's Insane NASCAR-Powered FJ Bruiser Unveiled At SEMA 2023

Toyota has just unveiled the ultimate off-road machine, fully equipped with a NASCAR cup-series engine, humongous 42-inch rock crawling tyres and a tank track. Yep, a tank track.

Toyota have come flying out the gates at SEMA this year with one of the most badass rock-crawling machines, built to hype up the all new Land Cruiser. Based off a 1966 FJ, this custom off-road creation features a full tube chassis and roll cage, solid axles and most importantly, a modified version of Toyota Racing Development's 358ci NASCAR V8 engine. While it's not clear what Toyota did change for the Bruiser, the motor spits out about 725 horsepower in full race trim.

The Bruiser is set up to crawl at 12mph flat-out in its lowest gear, but can also go full pelt across the dirt at 165mph in the highest gear at 7000rpm. It's got a set of 42-inch BF Goodrich Krawler T/A KX treads which are wrapped around 20-inch beadlock rims. The suspension work on this thing (as you'd imagine) is pretty nuts. It features triangulated four-link suspensions, with some absolutely huge long-travel coilovers using Eibach springs and Fox dampers.

Now here's where things get tricky. Toyota have called the FJ Bruiser "an unstoppable rock crawling beast that can go virtually anywhere.", and to prove that very point they've gone ahead and installed a tank track underneath in the rare case that this thing does actually get stuck. The tank track sits under the belly of the car, and the idea is to get the vehicle off of something that might be preventing the wheels from getting traction (i.e a boulder).

Toyota said: "Should ground clearance ever become an issue, the team replaced the center skid plate with a tank-like track system that can be used to power out of any high centered situation. The CAMSO® track is controlled from the cockpit, so the driver can stay securely seated; no need to unstrap and find something to tie off the winch. Tank mode can be activated with the push of a button."

While the vehicle hasn't been off-road just yet, we're eagerly awaiting to see some of the content Toyota release on this thing — cause let's be real, it looks absolutely awesome.
