In the realm of automotive transformations, every so often, a creation emerges that redefines conventions.

One such vehicle has been crafted by Steve, an Australian car enthusiast who has seamlessly blended the iconic charm of a classic Mini with the improved performance of a WRX. It’s not just a car; it's a statement.

Upon initial observation, Steve’s car it retains the classic Mini silhouette – compact and timeless. But delve a deeper and its true character is unveiled. This Mini boasts a rear-wheel-drive, mid-engine configuration. When asked about the inspiration behind the unique transformation, Steve's response was straightforward: he wanted it to be different.

Having previously ventured into the world of car modifications with a VTEC Mini, Steve was no novice. Drawing from his admiration for the distinct boxer sound of Subarus and the Mini's emblematic design, Steve embarked on a journey of automotive craftsmanship.

Central to this Mini's identity is the Subaru EJ engine. Its integration is not merely superficial; it's strategically positioned in a mid-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout. The inherent design of the boxer engine, being low and flat, ensures an optimal centre of gravity, enhancing the vehicle's driveability.

Steve's dedication to preserving the Mini's authenticity is commendable. He meticulously maintained the original 1961 body, ensuring no deviations from the Mini's renowned dimensions. However, beneath this iconic facade lies a thoroughly modernised underbody, custom-engineered by Steve.

The transformation journey presented its challenges. From navigating engineering complexities to securing road registration. Yet, with determination, Steve built something that both looked great and went hard!

Beyond its aesthetics, this Mini is a powerhouse. Equipped with a Process West intercooler and a VF52 turbo, it delivers approximately 190 kilowatts at the wheels and an impressive 400 Newton meters of torque. Considering its weight bracket of 900-920 kilograms, this Mini must be a tonne of fun to drive fast.

Steve's Mini transformation stands as a testament to innovative automotive craftsmanship. It blends classic style and modern engineering, capturing attention and admiration. This project serves as a reminder of the limitless possibilities that arise from passion, vision, and expertise when it comes to building custom cars.
