This isn’t the first car for Luke Mitchell to unveil, only couple of years ago pushing the boundaries of time getting his Torana ‘EVIL LJ’ to Summernats. This year, taking things to the next extreme, Luke’s new Holden HK Monaro is heading to Rockynats 03 with only days out - going hammer and tongs with all hands-on deck to make it in time.
Five days away from having the Monaro in the trailer and on the way to the show there is still a massive list to achieve. This once very tired HK has now had a complete overhaul to become an original matching numbers, Warwrick Yellow 307 model.
After owning this beast for the past two years Luke has spent the last six months pushing hard on completing this full nut and bolt restoration, with the next five days crucial to making the big dance.
The HK was at the paint shop over the weekend, K-Frame in a different shop getting completed, chrome in another and Luke working on assembling the engine as we speak - there is no time spare this week at the Mitchell residence.
After we spent the day with Luke going around to all these shops and making sure that all these pieces come together it’s clear this mission is insane but doable, the passion and determination really shows in this crazy timeline.
