The car you see before you began in the build around four years ago and started life as a VN Berlina. Ray sourced a really clean car which is always the best way to start. From there he planned and chatted with Damien Lowe from Lowe Fabrications and the journey kicked off.
Ray’s always stated that he loves show cars. After all Ray cut his teeth in the AutoSalon days with several smick builds. But in Holdens is where Ray’s found his niche. And it’s been a few years since we saw a second-generation Holden Commodore hit the scene as hard as KNGGPA. It even sat on the cover of Street Machine only months ago.
The build has a lot of seriousness about it given the custom fabricated engine bay, the tubbed front and rear, the front end is custom tubular - the list goes on and on (hear more in the video). Above all that, it’s done in a way that it can show, go and cruise like a champion. A keen eye will have seen Ray driving the car to a few meets in Sydney over the last 12 months - we love nothing more than seeing show cars of this level being used and enjoyed.
Under the custom fabricated bonnet sits a worked LS2 with an 8/71 blower, featuring billet rocker covers, polished injector hat and much more - basically every last polished billet part you can get for an LS. The Haltech ECU makes sure this LS purrs like a lion (or should we say Chev?). And while it might not be built to make ten thousand horsepower, it’s certainly got enough grunt to be a very tough streeter.
Step inside and the custom interior features a Dakota Digital dash, B&M shifter fitted into a custom console, genuine Group A SS seats front and rear albeit retrimmed, custom door cards with billet speaker surrounds, custom roof lining - the list goes on. The car has won many interior awards at various shows over the last year since it joined the show circuit - it only takes a quick look to see why.
The lushes Durif Red paint is the work of 2SUS Custom Resprays. The bodykit on the Group A is always a mission to fit and get right but everyone involved has done an amazing job to get it looking proper phat. Topping off the car’s look is a set of 22-inch, chrome-plated three-piece Simmons - which Damien from Lowe Fabrications tells us were the first thing that Ray bought for the car. Sitting tucked behind the five-spoke wheels are a meaty set of HSV brakes.
There’s no doubt it looks like a show car, drives like a proper street machine and wins trophies like it should given the level of work and quality done by so many heavy hitters in the scene. Check out the video below to learn more about this car from the person who had a huge hand in its build, Damein 'Chubby' Lowe.
