Drag Racing Archive: 'Beauty And The Beast' Featuring Jim Read and Rachelle Splatt

In the old days of Australian drag racing the sport captured the attention of many, including the mainstream media.

With the recent announcement of the NDRC and the new found excitement for unified drag racing down under, we did some digging and found this classic clip on two of Australia's most iconic racers – Jim Read and Rachelle Splatt, titled 'Beauty And The Beast' which featured on 60 Minutes.

The Jim Read Racing name is synonymous with Top Fuel drag racing down under, with decades of experience racing up the front of the Australian top fuel category. From the iconic red Marlboro livery to today's 'Black Mamba' Hydraulink car, the Reads have delievered years of top quality racing across Australia.

This little feature we've dug up on the web thanks to the Australian Drag Racing History YouTube channel is a killer look at where we've been as a sport, with the legendary Jim Read taking on the then upcoming superstar and 'queen of speed,' Rachelle Splat.

The Jim Read Racing team looks to continue their championship fight in the upcoming final round of this season's Burson Auto Parts Australian Top Fuel Championship in Darwin, tied on equal points with reigning champion Peter Xiberras in second place before entering their third season as part of the all new NDRC Group 1 program. We're pumped to see more drag racing in more places across Australia.
