VIDEO: BOOSTED Holden Rodeo Ute Show Car Still Turning Heads

Featuring in the MotorEx 2023 Show Car Hall Of Fame, the 'BOOSTED' Holden Rodeo Ute was a huge car in the scene around 17 years ago.

It caught our eye at MotorEx and we just had to have a chat with the owner/builder Darrell about where the car has been, what the build process was like and what he plans to do with the car moving forward.

Owen Webb made a few phone calls prior to MotorEx 2023 to get together more than a dozen cars for the MotorEx Show Car Hall Of Fame. This bunch consisted of lots of previous MotorEx champions, big players over the years and some other special guests who have had their rides play a big part of Australia’s best show car event.

Darrell’s Holden Rodeo set the scene on fire back in 2006 and 2007, winning just about everything there was to win. The car was originally his dad’s work truck and somehow has ended up an elite show car. How that happened is quite familiar - it wasn’t a big shop build, rather a car built by a bunch of mates who had skills in all the various departments needed. The body has been smoothed, cut, lengthened, shortened; you name it, it’s had it done. There’s loads of fibreglass work too, which with all the other extreme work makes ‘BOOSTED’ one of the finest mini trucks ever produced in this country.

Power is thanks to a boosted version of the Rodeo’s original engine. The combination puts out a whopping 400kW, which is not only big numbers in today’s scene but was HUGE for the time it debuted. And in terms of looks, check out the video to see the engine bay - it has to be one of the neatest bays we’ve ever seen.

From the video you’ll see that Darrell is about as ‘car guy’ as it gets. The BOOSTED Rodeo Ute is just one of many cars Darrell has in his shed, but it’s probably one of the most special to him given the level of custom fabrication involved and just how long its been in the family.
