When you regularly pilot one of the world's quickest and fastest rotarys down the strip in around 6.5-seconds, you aren't exactly going to roll around in a Camry on the street.
Enter George Rehayem of PAC Performance and his mild mannered RX3 street car that hides a dark secret.
Stepping into the plush all-black interior it is obvious that this bad boy is in every way a street car. Turn the key and the distinctive rotary idle is very adequately muffled, producing a polite and unobtrusive exhaust note. Sitting stationary behind the steering wheel, you would be forgiven for thinking that this was just a comfortable cruiser used to ferry George from A to B. As soon as the Jatco 3-speed is placed in gear and the loud pedal given a good prod though, this mild mannered Mazda reveals its sinister alter ego.
You see PAC didn't make their name by building mild, sensible Wankels, and when you are one of the founders of a shop like this, you've got some pretty cool toys at your disposal. By throwing together a couple of things he had around the shop, namely a Series 5 13B, a Garrett RBR650 and some ID2000s, George created a 500hp engine package that is 100% reliable for everyday use.
It cannot be stressed enough that this is absolutely a street car. George regularly cruises out to the track with his son in the baby seat. On street rubber this thing will lay down effortless 9.7-second passes all night long and after that, ferry everyone to Harry's for a couple of pies.
I think it is safe to say that George and the boys at PAC have created the ultimate street rotor. It's comfortable, quiet, has good brakes, a full stereo, drives better than most later model modified cars and will tear down the quarter in under 10-seconds any day of the week. Check out the videos below and let us know what you think. Would this be your ultimate street car and if not, what would be?
