If, twenty years ago, you’d told me that the VN SS would be considered one of the last truly great Holden production muscle cars, I would have committed you for psychiatric evaluation, but as true as I stand here in 2023 the second generation Commodores (and their HSV variants) are bonafide GMH-badged gold.
This particularly neat example belongs to Queensland’s Shane Faccioni and, as well as looking tougher than a $2 steak, it’s got the mambo to match thanks to a GTX50 forcing air into an 403 cube LS engine, that to date has propelled the Phoenix Red sedan to a best of 7.92sec@173mph. Regardless of what you think about second generation Commodores, that’s bloody fast!
Even more impressive is the fact that it’s doing it on fairly humbly sized radial tyres, and to further cement the car as one on Queensland’s toughest Commodores, after simply removing the parachute Shane isn’t afraid to fill the tank with fuel and the car with his mates and terrorise the streets!
Keep up to date with the VN’s latest PBs on its Instagram, @vnss.90.
