Known for showcasing some of the world's most prestigious and historic racing machines, Goodwood's attendees were in for a surprise in 2005 when the distinctly Australian roar of Peter Brock's Malboro liveried VK Commodore echoed through the estate. "Peter Perfect" put on a show in the 1984 Bathurst winning Holden machinery showing the Poms how it's done down under.
As Brock ascended the 2km hillclimb, the crowd was captivated. The usually restrained British fans were drawn to the audacity of the VK Commodore's performance, with its bellowing engine and raw power challenging the norms of their familiar circuit. It impressed on the time cards, setting a 58.68sec run which had it finish in second place.
In bringing his VK Commodore to the Festival of Speed, Peter Brock didn't just bridge the gap between Australian and British motorsports. He gave the world a glimpse of Australia's racing pedigree, symbolizing the universal passion that fuels motorsport enthusiasts worldwide. With Brock at the wheel, the car was not merely an exhibit but a live performance, and the applause and admiration from the spectators said it all.
While the Goodwood Festival of Speed has seen a fair share of Aussie powered racecars take on the show, having Brockie behind the wheel of the '84 Bathurst winner was surely the most memorable. Check out some of the footage we dug up online below!
