Sergio Perez Reflects On Ricciardo's Move To AlphaTauri

Daniel Ricciardo's move to AlphaTauri may pave his way back to Red Bull, speculates observers. Meanwhile, Sergio Perez focuses on upcoming races while empathising with Nyck de Vries' short F1 stint.
Sergio Perez Reflects On Ricciardo's Move To AlphaTauri

In a surprise move reported recently by Performance Garage in our article, Australian racer Daniel Ricciardo is now wearing AlphaTauri colours, filling in the gap left by Nyck de Vries. Pundits of F1 see this move as a potential stepping stone for Ricciardo to reclaim a position in the Red Bull Racing line-up, given Sergio Perez's contract is set to end in 2024.

There's been some growing speculation about Sergio Perez's future at Red Bull, fuelled in part by his recent lacklustre performances; a 16th place finish in Monaco and 4th in Spain have considerably dimmed his title aspirations. Despite his contract running till the end of 2024, murmurs are circulating that Red Bull might look towards fresh talent such as Lando Norris to fill the possible void. However, Perez remains unflustered amidst this wave of conjecture concerning his future with the team, displaying a certain degree of nonchalance in the face of what may well be a crucial period in his racing career.

Perez Maintains Confidence Amidst Red Bull Seat Contention

Confronted with the potential return of Ricciardo to Red Bull, Perez takes the speculation in stride. He asserts that such competition for a Red Bull seat isn't unusual, pointing out that it’s not just about Ricciardo but involves other drivers too. He says,

"There's not just Daniel out there, it's Yuki [Tsunoda], more than half of the grid would love to drive for Red Bull. So it doesn't change anything.”

Perez: Focused on the Present, Not Distant Future

Perez's immediate attention, however, is not fixated on the 2025 season but rather on his forthcoming races. He articulates,

“I'm focusing on Hungary and then in Belgium, I'm not really thinking about 2025, it's so far ahead. It's nonsense to think that far away."

Reflecting on de Vries' Brief Sojourn in F1

The empathy Perez expresses for de Vries is poignant, considering the latter's notably short Formula 1 experience. As described in another Performance Garage post, de Vries' journey in F1 was remarkably brief and challenging. Perez laments,

"Well, I feel sorry for Nyck. He had a very short experience, it was quite brutal in that regard - it was a very short experience of F1."

Constant Driver Changes at Red Bull

The withdrawal of de Vries from AlphaTauri is just one more in a string of in-season driver alterations that have characterised the Red Bull teams. Despite this dynamic environment, Perez remains steadfast and is determined to continue proving his mettle. With his future in his hands, he appears resolved to make every race count.
