SEMA Update Part 1

SEMA showcases exciting products like spark plugs with built-in capacitors, piston wastegates, and new options for 86/BRZ/FRS enthusiasts.
SEMA Update Part 2

Every year the world looks to SEMA to find out what will be hitting the aftermarket in the near future. Our man on the ground, Andy Wyatt from Adaptronic, has just gotten back to us with his first update and we’re pretty excited by what he’s found.

“Pulstar have these spark plugs which look awesome,” says Andy. “They have an inbuilt capacitor which helps the plug deliver a much higher voltage, which produces a bigger spark and I expect would be better for hard-to-fire conditions like fouled plugs, high boost applications and so on.

“I thought the demo was impressive, and they have dyno graphs showing before and after figures with only plug changes, but there's also a lot of bullshit in people claiming fuel economy and power increases from simple changes so I want to test them on a dyno back to back before I endorse them.”

“Synapse have a piston type wastegate, rather than a diaphragm type. I asked them about the temperature tolerance of the O-rings and they said that they've just done about 2 million dollars worth of endurance and temperature testing for a "tier 1 manufacturer" (wouldn't tell me who), and that a lot of R&D has gone into that. They have a special lubricant for the O-ring that causes a temperature gradient to keep the O-ring cool. The four ports on it are for different configurations.

“There were a bunch of new products for the 86/BRZ/FRS as well, like these coilovers from BC Racing that are currently available in the single adjustment, no-remote canister type.”

“Advanced Clutch Technology have a twin plate clutch that you can see pictured as a cutaway above along with a single plate one.”

“There was also a supercharger kit on display, with a supercharger from Perth based manufacturer Sprintex on top of a manifold Bullet Supercars in Queensland. Go Aussie exports!”

That’s it for now as Andy is flat out running around trying to take everything in. Stay tuned to Performance Garage for his next update.
