Rusty Bali Torana to Summernats Burnout Wildcard! (video)

Aiden Stampalia is no stranger to a mad dash to Summernats. This year, however, he is taking his commitment to the next level. Aiden only started restoring his LX Torana build a few short months ago, and in that time has completely gutted the stock-standard beauty to make one sick skid beast! Yep, even the floor is gone.

You wouldn’t guess this Holden Torana has had a unique life just by looking at it. You’d think, yeah, maybe it was someone’s farm car or daily grocery getter back in the 70s. But nope. It’s originally from Bali. Yep, where Bintang and scooters keep everyone busy. Obviously in the last few years it has made its way back to Australia, albeit very rusty - hence why the car has been gutted, ready for a spanking new chassis.

The exciting parts powering Aiden’s will be a Dodge R5P7 V8 NASCAR engine with a tunnel ram and twin methanol carbs. This will be backed by a Reid Powerglide which will feed a 35-spline sheetmetal nine-inch diff. In the next few weeks the Torana will be getting a whole new PPG gunmetal colour scheme - and by then it’ll definitely look far removed from the Bali local it once was.

With a tight FIFO schedule you’d think it’s an impossible task to make Summernats 35 (only weeks away), but Aiden’s determination to beat the clock is a true inspiration to many of us. He’s been working days and nights, even sleeping next to the car in his swag. So with all that said, we had to pop in and have a look at just how much work was going into this awesome beast.

Aiden says the new motor is almost finished and ready to be sent over from Brett at BNR Engines. It’s going to be a well-earned beer after Aiden’s first skid on the Summernats burnout pad!
