Road to Red CentreNATS 09: Entrant Preview Part 1

Red CentreNATS is a unique adventure to the centre of Australia that gets everyone revved up for a journey like no other once a year. Entrants travel from all across the country to converge on the Red Centre for a truly spectacular horsepower party which has everything from heavy-hitter drag racing to blown burnout beasts cruising the streets. The journey to the Red Centre is half the fun of this event, and this year we're excited to meet close to 1000 entrants in the middle.

Now in its ninth year running, we are expecting to see some spectacular builds on display at the show. Let's take a look at a few standout vehicles making their way to one of the best horsepower festivals in the country.

First up, we're excited to see Matt McIntosh's epic 1972 HQ Holden Statesman at the show. Taking in the sheer amount of workmanship put into this build will require hours. Just by looking at the gunmetal metallic grey paint job, you can tell there is something different. Extreme amounts of fabrication were involved in lowering and extending the floor and adjacent panels to achieve a perfect fit.

The engine bay, also showcasing impressive fabrication work, houses a killer twin-turbo small block that generates over 1000hp. It is paired with a set of stunning rose gold Simmons wheels. After unveiling at Summernats 35, Matt took his award-winning build to this year's Meguiar's 21st MotorEx, where it garnered more accolades along the way.

Next up is Jason Kennedy's 1950 Ford Spinner, which turned heads at Summernats 35. Featuring a knockout Kustom House of Kolor flamed Kandy paint job by Kyle at Smiths Concepts, Jason drove this beauty down the main street onto the infield to join in the gravel ring Saturday Super Cruise.

The chopped Spinner is equipped with a 4-link setup and air-ride suspension, expertly done by Aaron Gregory from Memphis Hell. The custom interior, crafted by North Coast Customs, is just as impressive. Imagine this stunning color scheme against the backdrop of Ayers Rock – truly epic!

Now, let's recall the first Rocky Nats Elite Hall, where Judith Menso's modified 1977 Holden Torana LX caught everyone's attention. As soon as the unveil cover dropped, this hatchback stood out with its classy and classic Morpheus Purple metallic paint. The vehicle features extensive top-to-bottom fabrication work, meticulously done by Rodney Menso (Judith's husband), who also painted it to an elite standard.

Under the hood, a subtly powerful 304 VR Statesman supercharged engine, ported with a mild cam, produces 442hp on the dyno. It sits within a fully customized satin engine bay. Judith is already setting her sights on becoming the Red Centre Champion, and there's no better place to start than by kicking off with the Street Parade through the heart of Alice Springs.

Every visitor to the Red Centre is in for a once-in-a-lifetime experience, surrounded by great people and loads of entertainment throughout the entire town. If these are just a taste of this year's entrants, imagine what awaits during the event weekend. A good time is brewing, so don't miss out!
