In all my years writing about modified cars and the automotive aftermarket, I’ve only ever written about one BMW E9 CSL. This is it.
I couldn’t scroll past the trumpeted straight six engine perched so neatly in the bay, with intricate stainless steel headers on the other side.
If you need a moment to yourself as you imagine the noise of the atmo’ straight six at the upper echelons of the tachometer as it hurtles around a European race track, we can definitely understand.
The bodystyling comes straight from the Sebring-winning 1974 E9 CSL, its famous ‘Batmobile’ widebody in unspoiled Navy Blue on this build from Vink Motorsport, contrasted nicely by the bright yellow hoon writing on those big Goodyear Eagle meats!
Inside the car is sparse and functional. A roll cage extends metal, spidery legs to all corners of the cabin and luxurys like carpet, door trims and even the backseat have been given their marching orders.
The floorpan has been scalloped for the side exit exhaust, and the whole interior has copped a coat of low-sheen black. Very classy.
Underneath the car is more eye candy - exceptionally detailed and stacked with parts that may very well have been lifted from the shelf of any professional race team, anywhere in the world.
Adjustable arms hang from a fabricated, tube front end, with whopping great brakes filling the void behind the period-correct center lock mesh wheels.
The E9’s styling means it never made the podium for BMW’s most handsome historic vehicles, but we think you’ll agree there’s just something about this build that’s got us swooning.
