Steven Garzo bought this genuine LH SL/R 5000 with the intention of creating the aforementioned replica, but it was his son Frank who decided it was way too rare and significant to have anything other than a restoration back to standard performed.
Frank bought a 6-cyl example for his dad to modify to his heart’s content and then he took on the task of restoring the SL/R 5000. He also stuck strictly to factory specifications, not even tweaking the matching-numbers engine during the rebuild, the only exception being a conversion to unleaded petrol so he could drive it and refuel it wherever he wanted.
The bodywork was restored by Twins Panel and Paint who also resprayed it the original colour of Saffron. Meanwhile the upholstery was re-trimmed by Anthony’s Motor Trimming.
There is a complete feature story on Frank’s restored genuine LH Torana SL/R 5000 in a special magazine called Restored Legends Holden Torana, available now.
