Les Lawry's 1930 Ford Vicky Ready For MotorEx Hall Of Fame Build

Les Lawry's 1930 Ford Victoria is a one of a kind hot-rod, with many calling it ‘Australia's Best Hot Rod’. The inaugural winner of Meguiar’s MotorEx, Les is bringing his Ford Vicky back to to sit on display in the first ever MotorEx Show Car Hall of Fame.

The car was built by Shane Rowe from Southern Rod And Custom, and made its first debut at the 2002 Victorian Hot Rod Show. An instant success, Les' Ford Victoria went on to win a stack of trophies in its early years and became the first-ever recipient of the Meguiar’s Superstars Best of Breed Hot Rod award in 2003.

The car won so many awards Les laughed that it eventually became embarrassing to win trophy after trophy. We were lucky enough to be invited by Les to head out to his place in Cowra and chat through how excited he was to bring the car back to MotorEx – all these years later.

He was also kind enough to show around his epic car collection, featuring another MotorEx winning rod, and some epic street cars he’s built and collected over the years. Les will be the first to admit he built the Vicky as a through and through show car, not to be driven on the road. He refers to it as a “piece of jewellery he can’t wear around his neck”.

Fast forward a few years after the Vicky cleaned up at the inaugural MotorEx and Les hit up Shane to build him another rod, this time to be both driven and shown. Les’ new 1932 Ford Roadster won Best Of Breed at Meguiar’s MotorEx in 2006 – just three years after winning with the Vicky.
