Lamborghini Teases Upcoming Electric Car Concept Ahead of Monterey Car Week

Lamborghini enthusiasts (and electric vehicle enthusiasts) have reason to be excited as the renowned Italian automaker gears up to unveil its first-ever electric car concept.

Set to debut at this year's Monterey Car Week in California August 18 to 20, the Raging Bull is all set to make a bold statement in the EV world. Scheduled for production in 2028, this EV marks Lamborghini's expansion into the electric realm, joining the ranks of their illustrious models: the Revuelto, Urus, and the upcoming successor to the iconic Huracan.

While the details are still shrouded in mystery, some tidbits have managed to surface. The EV is set to feature a 2-plus-2 seating configuration, raising questions about whether it will embrace the sleek demeanour of a grand tourer or embrace the commanding presence of a crossover.

The design inspiration for this electric model will no doubt take some design language from Lamborghini's rich history. Whispers in the automotive world hint at resemblances between Lamborghini's first electric offering and the four-door Estoque concept of 2008, as well as the two-door Asterion concept from 2014.

CEO Stephan Winkelmann has shared insights into what lies ahead. He paints a picture of a revolutionary "new body style, new tech, and lots of opportunities to remake Lamborghini." While promising a sense of familiarity, Winkelmann envisions a vehicle that stands as a testament to innovation - a harmonious blend of the iconic and the unprecedented.

The foundation that will underpin this 2-plus-2 masterpiece remains a mystery. While speculation swirls, Winkelmann has quelled rumours by indicating that it won't be built on a bespoke Lamborghini architecture. Instead, synergies within the Volkswagen Group will lend their components to shape Lamborghini's electric future.

The electric race is underway, with Lamborghini preparing for a 2028 launch, narrowly trailing Ferrari, which aims to unveil its own electric vehicle in 2025. The inception of Lamborghini's electrification journey dates back to 2021, when the tantalising silhouette of the electric 2-plus-2 was first hinted at behind a mysterious black curtain.

With the recent introduction of the Revuelto - a V12 hybrid successor to the Aventador - the path toward a greener future is illuminated. The roadmap also includes a hybrid successor to the Huracan and a V8 plug-in hybrid powertrain for the Urus by the close of 2024.
