Holy Head Gaskets! They're Asking How Much For This WRX?

Forget throwing your hat in the property market, could a souped up Subaru be a better way to invest $1,000,000?

We know that you think you’re looking at a 2-door WRX STi, but the reality is you’re actually staring at a Prodrive P25, a modern reimagination of Subaru’s all-conquering all-wheel-drive that shot the brand to the stratospheric heights of street and rally performance, and earned the WRX STi namesake absolute legend status.

This very vehicle is currently for sale on eBay for a cool £636,000. For Australian readers, you might think that this obviously means that some of the ATMs the Rexxys were notorious for ram raiding in the early 2000s must be included as part of the sale, but the astonishing price tag can be linked to the car’s future collectible status.

The Prodrive P25 is indeed based on a 2-door STi, but that’s about where the similarities stop. The body is a carbon composite reproduction that brings the kerb weight down to 1,200kg, while the Prodrive WRC team have built a 2.5L that makes 450hp thanks to a built engine, bigger turbo, new fuel system and other exotic bolt-ons like the Akrapovic exhaust.

The rally team saw it fit to install a sequential box complete with paddle shift, and rally influences extend to the alcantara and carbon trimmed interior, with an LCD dash installed in place of the factory gauges.

With only 25 P25s ever built there’s no denying that they’re a rare little morsel.
