Garage Active TKO Red Carbon R: With NA RB30 Power?!

If you’re into the GT-R scene or attended GT-R Festival at Sydney Dragway earlier in the year, you’re probably familiar with Sakamoto-san and his wild Nissan creations through his business, Garage Active. The crown jewel among his custom creations is the Carbon R. The video, featuring the renowned racing driver Akira Iida, showcases an R32 GT-R that is anything but ordinary.

First exhibited at the 2020 Auto Salon, what caught our attention was the unique approach Garage Active took with this car. They went back to the roots, drawing inspiration from the L-series engine, known for its incredible sound and the raw NA power. This GT-R was not just NA but also FR (Front Engine, Rear Wheel Drive), a combination that's both rare and intriguing.

The video takes viewers on a visual treat, showcasing the pristine engine bay of the 32, equipped with an RB30. Great attention to detail is evident, with all the wiring meticulously hidden, giving it a clean and sleek look. This RB30 engine was never available in Japan and so Sakamoto-san had this one, originally from an R31 Skyline, shipped from Australia.

But the surprises didn't end there. The GT-R was fitted with an air suspension, allowing the extra-wide carbon fibre body to sit super low. This feature not only adds to the aesthetics but also provides flexibility in adjusting the car's height based on driving conditions.

As Akira Iida takes the GT-R for a spin, the sound of the engine roared, distinct from turbo engines, echoing the legacy of the L-series that has gone before. The video beautifully captures the essence of driving this car, even if we wished Iida-san gave it a heap of extra right boot.
