This red 2006 WRX is a girl’s car. No really, it belongs to a 21 year old who has done most of the modifications herself.
“This is a work in progress” says retail assistant and student Jess Beale. “I have owned the car for a year-and-a-half after buying it stock. The first thing was looks, then handling.” After that came power with some bolt-on goodies like the STi intercooler and manifold, and even more power is next with most of the extra parts like a bigger turbo already sitting in the garage ready to go on.
“Ever since I was a kid I’ve wanted a WRX. I originally had my heart set on a peanut shape model (2003-2005), but couldn’t find one at the time with low KMs in good condition. I had a look at this one, it was great, but I wasn’t a fan of the red. A week later and it was mine. I have now fallen in love with the red”.
Jess is also proud of the fact that she has performed 95% of the modifications herself. Having grown up watching her dad turn spanners on cars the engine stuff was easy. “The most difficult part of the build was putting in the headlights. We ended up doing the process over a week. We put the headlights in the oven, opened them up, sanded them back, sprayed in adhesive primer, sanded back, sprayed the red ring, masked it up, sprayed the black and then put it back into the oven to re-seal”.
It was worth all that effort though. “They have changed the complete look of the front of the car. The amount of people commenting or asking how to do it is crazy” Jess declared.
”Modifying my car is my hobby. Not many 21-year-old girls would rather spend a Fri/Sat night cruising round and talking about cars then going out and getting drunk. To me, driving makes me not care about anything else in the world. It frees my mind and puts a smile on my face”.
Jess’ 2006 WRX is featured in the August 2015 (No.263) issue of Hot4s magazine, available in print now or digitally through Zinio.
