Entrants To Look Out For At Meguiar’s MotorEx

Australia's premier car event, MotorEx, is set to showcase 700 unique cars and bikes at the Melbourne Showgrounds. This year includes new additions like the Show Car Hall of Fame concept and features notable cars like Peter Fitzpatrick's Holden FC and Lloyd Taylor's Holden HT Monaro. The event runs from May 6-7.

Australia’s premiere car event is right around the corner with almost 700 of the very best cars from around the country converging on the Melbourne Showgrounds for an all out automotive celebration. MotorEx is a unique event in the fact that cars and bikes from all walks of life end up on display, with something for everyone to check out.

There’s a few new additions to the show this year, namely the Show Car Hall of Fame concept, developed by the one and only Owen Webb who’s gone through his long phone book and wrangled up some of the most influential cars from the last twenty years of the show.

Amongst other things, the show is back with all its favourites including the incredible Meguiar’s Superstars competition, the Street Elite and Muscle Car Marvel collections and of course - Rare Spares Real Street; a collection of Melbourne’s finest street driven metal.

With so many cool cars heading to the show, we thought we’d pick out five of our favourites that we’d recommend checking out in person.

PETER FITZPATRICK’S HOLDEN FC - TRILOGY

Possibly the most winningest car in the street machine world, staking a claim to six Summernats titles over the 35 years of the show. The FC in its current form made its debut at MotorEx 2010, winning one of the biggest awards in the shows history - Street Machine Of The Decade. Fitzy’s spent plenty of time getting it ready for the show, so be sure to stop by and say g’day.

LLOYD TAYLOR - HOLDEN HT MONARO

Now here’s one we’re pretty hyped to see. It’s been claimed as one of the best street elite HT Monaro builds in recent times, and it’s travelling over 4000 kilometres from WA to Melbourne. It’s been built from the ground up almost solely by the owners in the middle of the Pilbara in Western Australia, with a better-than-factory philosophy in mind the entire time. It’s been dipped in a gorgeous PPG custom formula specially created by owners, and sits on some Schott Performance Wheels all the way from the United States.

TIM LAIDLER - HSV SV88

Tim’s VL really stole the show in January after its unveil at Street Machine Summernats 35. It’s a genuine SV88 with an extensive build list that’s sure to impress. If the mega Merlin-4 blocked, 14/71 blown 540-cube mill planted up the front with its epic carbon fibre hat doesn’t instantly grab your attention, the incredible paint work and massive custom wheels are sure to stand out. It’s a serious head-turner, and well worth a closer look when you get the chance. After all, it’s not built just to display - Tim’s looking to run 7s on the strip once the show days wrap up.

PETER LEWS - ‘BOSSXC’ Ford XC Falcon

Possibly one of the most followed builds in our scene over the last twelve months, this XC Falcon / FG Falcon hybrid has been built from the ground up by none other than Howard Astill. It made its debut at Summernats in January, but there were plenty of touches Howard was itching to get back into the shop and improve on. He’s had a few months since, and spent plenty more man hours in the shed on the car. We’re pumped to see the updated version at MotorEx, and we reckon it’s gunna be a popular one. Make sure to stop by!

JUSTIN GARDNER - HOLDEN EH

We spotted Justin’s EH in the Meguiar’s Superstars pavilion last year, where it was parked front and centre and boy what an impact it made. It’s an epic build that pays homage to one of Holden’s most popular models, keeping its factory look but taking it to an incredible elite standard. There’s plenty of work done upon closer inspection, with a three-quarter chassis grafted into the floor, accommodating a set of full tubs and a stainless triangulated four link rear end. It’s finished in a gorgeous House of Kolor Brandywine red, which just makes the gorgeous Intro Hammer Wheels (20x12 on the rear!) pop.

There’s only a few days to go until the gates open at the Melbourne Showgrounds, and the quality of car this year has really taken it to the next level. It’s going to be an all out car festival with live burnouts, drifting, a huge trade hall and plenty more.

We’re ready to bring you plenty of live coverage from the show so be sure to stay tuned. Better yet, if you’re in the area you can grab your tickets online and beat the gate. It’s one you’ve just gotta check out in person - Melbourne Showgrounds May 6-7.
