We all expected this year to be big and was it ever. The quality of vehicles throughout the entire venue was outstanding. With this year being the 21st MotorEx, many cars returned for the Show Car Hall Of Fame. Many of the cars were previous award winners and the pinnacle cars of their time. Having them on display gave an insight into how innovation has changed throughout the years and just how each car paved the way for the next.
The most talked about car of the show was most certainly Dan Morton’s ‘FORGED’, built by the amazing team at Pat’s Pro Restos. Standing out with expert craftmanship and extraordinary amounts of fabrication and innovation, there is no doubt why it took out every gold award and thus MotorEx Grand Master.
There were three grand pavilions full of elite, street elite and crazy cool cars - all as far as the eye could see. And how could we forget the Milwaukee Performance Garage Trade Hall which had everything you could imagine related to new and best products.
The Melbourne weather never slowed with Rare Spares Real Street cars showing up and showing off, lining the Aeroflow Bangshift boulevard from top to tail and enjoying the hot coffee and fresh donuts. The one thing to make your jaw hit the floor was seeing last year’s Summernats Grand Champion winner, Livi Krevatin, in his 1978 Porsche 911, which came straight from a track day and completed over 3000km for the trip.
A strange but cool thing to see over the weekend was the billowing smoke coming from some of Australia’s best in Jake Myers (S1CKO) and Peter Grmusa (ATRISK). The crowd was loving every second of the live action. It didn’t stop there when the smoke cleared - there was some extreme sideways action coming from the Drift Cadet crew.
Adjacent to the drift pad was the MPW Dyno Cell. Adam Rogash, owner of MPW, and his wife Kelly were excited all weekend given they unveiled their latest build in the Milwaukee Performance Garage dome. You can read more about that very special car HERE.
Whilst judging each category of these amazing cars we got to take in the atmosphere of the crowd enjoying and getting involved with things like the Repco DJ Hauler and Pitstop Challenges - it was smiles across the whole weekend.
It really didn’t stop at any stage over the two days with so much to see and do, and it can only go bigger and better. We can’t wait to see all the awesome entrants and spectators next year - you make this event spectacular! Long live MotorEx.
