In our travels getting ready for Summernats 35 we called in to see Mark and Carolyn Hayes to see how Carolyn's Holden LH Torana is going as it nears completion right in time for its unveil on Thursday night at Summernats 35.
Carolyn’s Torana has been in the build for almost six years and it’s certainly come a long way from the 173ci Holden six it once was. The inspiration for the build was to compete in Street Machine Drag Challenge for the full five days reliably, be an awesome streeter for Sunday drives and also have the grunt and equipment to run a seven-second pass - with some help of nitrous.
Things like an almost invisible roll cage integrated in the cabin, the drag wheels, big brakes, Small Block Chevy 415ci engine - the more you look the more insane this show and go Torana looks. Carolyn's husband, Mark Hayes, said that it's important the car looks as good as it goes. Mark said:
"We've gone to a lot of trouble to make this car look as standard as possible. There's a lot of modifications that people won't even notice. But to make it look standard it's twice the work. You could build a race car in half the time and money, but to finish the car off and make it look like a complete street car and have it go like this car will go, it's a lot of work."
Carolyn and Mark have put so much thought and work into this Torana. And while we’d love to tell you more about the car the best thing you can do is come see it in person at Summernats 35 in January.
Check out the video to see a preview of what this LH Torana is set to become once it's finished and on display at Summernats 35 - January 5-8 2023.
