Build Your Dream 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air - Just Add Hard Work & Money

If you've ever lusted after a 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air you'd be in good company. And if you wanna buy one for cheap to fix up you might just have to travel long and far to find one (or two in this case).

The 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air is an immensely desirable classic car - films like Running On Empty and the term ‘spotto ’57 Chevy’ certainly didn’t hurt its appeal in Australia, and then there’s Victor Bray and his insane drag car - which also loved to turn tyres at Summernats for many years.

But locating a project that doesn't require an overwhelming amount of elbow grease is a proper challenge. Given their age of 66 years, finding one in good enough condition to restore is right up there with pigs flying.

Then not one, but two separate 1957 Bel Airs, hidden away in a barn somewhere show up for sale. Both Bel Airs are virtually identical (the eBay listing states), and a few online photos reveal they’re surrounded by an assortment of boxes and miscellaneous items - because who doesn’t want boxes of classic car parts!

While specific details remain shrouded in mystery, apparently the seller insists that these cars have already been stripped of nearly all their components. What you're acquiring here are two nearly pristine body shells, perfect for facilitating a restoration.

Both vehicles won't come with an interior, engine, or any other components. But that can all be sourced much easier than finding a shell (or two in this case). The available photos provide little insight into potential rust issues, though luckily for people nowadays almost everything you can think of is available for ’57 Chevy models.

It’s possible that these pair were abandoned projects some time many years ago - and what’s one man’s headache could certainly be another man’s treasure. According to the seller, identified as sydstar-96, the two Bel Airs are still nestled in the same barn where they were discovered.

The auction price on eBay is now above USD$5000. The owner is eager to part ways with these two Bel Airs. Since there's no reserve price set, who knows how cheap they could sell for. If you’re an Aussie we’re sorry. Both of these Chevs (strangely, we can only really see one in the images listed - but the listing says there's two) are located in Florida. But who wouldn’t travel the world to get hold of their dream car?
