Having a street machine built by a custom shop is one way to get yourself the ride of your dreams. But what if you don’t have the means to make that happen? Building it yourself is always an option, and that’s exactly what Jasmine did.

Jasmine Green's KHAOS-1 Journey

What you see here is Jasmine Green’s very first car - all the work was done on a budget and all completed with Jasmine’s very own hands. What’s even more remarkable is that the car was built as a side project while working at a coffee shop. Last year the KHAOS-1 won the prestigious Street Machine Of The Year award. Not a bad reward for all the hard work.

Jasmine's HiLux and the Art of Custom Fabrication

The HiLux came into Jasmine’s possession at the age of 17, but the build really only escalated a few years ago. And as you can see, the level of custom fabrication is next level. Jasmine states that it was never built to be a show car.

At Summernats 34 Jasmine decided to see how the HiLux would go in terms of making the ‘Top 60’. And that it did. After that it went to MotorEx and then Showcars Melbourne. And that’s it. Jasmine says:

Through building this car I’ve pushed myself, learning more and more. Working at the café I couldn’t afford to pay anyone to build it, to paint it. So, just had to have a go."

Stuffed it up plenty of times, always attacking things because it could be done better. At some stage I would like to do a revamp, but that might be in 5-10 years time. Chop it up again and make it even better.”

LS1 Power, Safe Drives: Jasmine's HiLux Revamp

In terms of running gear the HiLux features an LS1 crate engine with a T56 six-speed manual transmission. The engine is fairly stock Jasmine says, with the only real mod being a custom intake. The diff has a Truetrac centre in it because “the pegger was dangerous and way too sketchy”. Disc brakes feature at all four corners, using Nissan Skyline callipers and Ford Falcon BA rotors with a billet hub adaptor.

Air Suspension and Custom Chassis Mods

Helping slam the HiLux extremely low is a full air suspension with a four-link setup in the rear. Jasmine says to get a HiLux low you need to basically chop everything, which is why the chassis is notched and almost everything is custom. Every crossmember has been changed.

From Show Winner to Cruiser

Jasmine currently works at Maskells Custom And Classics as a trimmer, only recently finishing her apprenticeship. The cafe shifts are gone and Jasmine now gets to work her skills on some very special builds - Maskells is one of Australia’s premier custom shops, pushing out trophy winning car after car.

It’s taken quite a lot of work to get it where it is today. But nonetheless Jasmine says the HiLux’s show days are over and it’s time for stone chips and lots of cruising.
