Aussies Invade NZ

Aussies Invade NZ

Don’t think it is too hard to drive fast in a straight line? Then take a look at the video below of Craig Dyson piloting Graham Prior’s Mazda R100 down the quarter at the V4 and Rotary Nationals in New Zealand. If you're wondering why Craig is having such a tough time, it's because this isn’t just any R100, it’s a Methanol-fuelled, 13B Turbo powered dragster capable of uber quick times.

The R100 traveled to New Zealand as part of a four car Aussie invasion of the iconic event. With the other three cars making the trek being Joe Gauci and his Cortina, Collin Willshire and his Mitsubishi Eclipse and Bryce Millers with his RX3.

"Thanks to Champion Oil for helping us bring over the Australian Invasion 2012. It was our fifteen year anniversary of the Nationals and we wanted to make it big." Says event promoter Azhar Bhamji. "Thanks to the four teams who helped make this happen. The crowds reaction was just awesome. Having a four-cylinder, three rotarys and one V8 just made the dreams here in NZ."

All four cars turned on an impressive display for the fans in their own show class. If those watching responded like we did upon seeing this awesome video, they may just receive another invite next year for the sixteenth running of this event.

The video below is one of the best we've seen documenting the driving prowess required on a rough track like Meremere. Watch as Craig lays a Victor Bray-equse burnout to warm the tyres, battling for control of the R100 the whole way. Then as the lights go green everything seems to pass at warp speed as Craig keeps the car's nose pointing towards the far end of the track and runs deep into the 7-second bracket. As an added bonus the sound quality is fantastic, so turn up the volume and enjoy!

Thanks to our mates over at http://www.roadmagazine.blogspot.com.au/ for bringing this to our attention.

If you're interested in checking out the V 4 & Rotary Jamboree for yourself, why not head to the North Island on the 25th of March? You will see some mean pieces of NZ machinery kicking around, and lots of other attractions to boot.

Also, keep an eye on the show's website for more information as next year's event draws closer. As Azhar says "People cant wait to see what we have lined up for next year but they all said that it will be hard to top that off." But you can be sure he is definitely going to pull out all the stops to try and go bigger.
