Square body American trucks have become the hot ticket in the Australian aftermarket, with hundreds if not thousands of the patina encrusted work vehicles fleeing their homeland, awaiting a new life at the hands of a flannel-shirted bloke from the Gold Coast whose hobbies include craft beer and drone flying.
Those that stay in America though, get treated to some of the oddities that permeate their unique aftermarket. On my daily social media doom scroll I stumbled across this creation from Salvage to Savage who are one of my favourite new social media follows.
Originally powered by one of Chevrolet’s hallmark six or eight cylinder power plants, this particular version has copped not one but two Tesla Large Drive Units - one powering the front wheels, and one powering the rear. The result is the equivalent of 1,000hp and 1,800lb.ft of torque to all four wheels!
The wild driveline conversion is topped off with a tarmac rally-inspired aesthetics package - giant overfenders, a functional roll cage, subtle hints at some aero work with the tiny rear spoiler and giant Toyo Proxes R888R meats - it’s a look we could get used to, and will surely get a lot of rusted on street machiners rethinking EV engine conversions!
