Richard's 1973 Holden HQ GTS Monaro is a case of period correct styling done smick for the street. This Aussie classic has been built and restored to look the part, as well as drive and feel even better than it would have when it rolled off the factory production line in the early 70s.
The only modification to the body is a reverse cowl on the bonnet and the interior has been fully retrimmed, giving the car a true OEM look. Richard tells us that one of his favourite features of the car is the original factory HQ GTS Monaro color, Purr Pull, which looks absolutely stunning.
Under the bonnet sits a Holden 308ci motor which has been stroked out to 383ci by Dandy Engines in Victoria, and makes a solid 580-horsepower. The Monaro has been fitted with a 5200rpm stall converter and a Trutrac nine-inch differential up the back. The car sits on widened factory GTS Monaro rims, with 14x7 up the front and 15x8 in the rear.
The attention to detail that went into the restoration of this car is truly impressive and it's no surprise that this car has already won the 2022 Victorian Monaro state titles. With its classic Aussie looks and impressive performance, it's sure to turn heads wherever it goes.
This was Richard's first time at Summernats. He also has quite a few other toys, including a drift car with an LS engine. Check out the video below and be sure to subscribe to the Performance Garage YouTube channel so you don't miss out on any upcoming features.
