We first spotted Heath's A9X mock-up at Summernats a few years back, and most recently we saw it at Meguiar's MotorEx earlier in the year. Since then, it's been talked about all over the interwebs — most notably as the Street Machine magazine cover car. Anyone that has an interest in old Aussie muscle would be drawn to check this thing out thanks to its retro look and immaculate finish. It's a true DIY project, that Heath kicked off in 2014.
Heath admits that it started life as a less than desirable UC Sunbird, but through an eight year build process it now sits as an epic time capsule pro-touring A9X Torana. Under the hood lies an Aussie stroked and injected 383ci Holden V8 that spits out about 500 horsepower. The main goal for the car was for it to be driven, so plenty of work has been spent in suspension and weight reduction. The rear end is all custom built, with one-off Shockworks dampers all round.
One of the most eye-catching parts of the build is the custom interior. It features a re-trimmed "fashion pack", with Recaro seats and custom orange mesh headrest, hydraulic handbrake with a stainless frabicated lever and matching shifter. The rear-end has some custom stainless interior bracing which really adds to the pro-touring theme. It's also got SpeedHut gauges with custom artwork to match the factory cluster, plus a 3D printed power outlet, shift light post and custom cup holder to look like factory SS interior parts.
It sits brilliantly on a set of double staggered custom Panasport three-piece wheels, measuring 16x10 in the front and 17x12 in the rear, built by the crew at Barrel Bros. Everyone has is entitled to their own opinion, but the colour matched faces are a huge hit with us!
You could spend ages going through this thing and finding epic little details you'd miss on first glance, but if you're like me and just want to hear this thing roaring — you're in luck. Our mates at Fullboost met up with Heath for a blast in this epic Holden time capsule and it's surely worth a watch! Check it out below:
