Wheel-Standing Corvette C8 Resets Drag Record

Nothing screams ‘Freedom’ like a 1400hp twin turbo Corvette riding the bumper!

I’m the last guy in the world to get excited about trivial drag records, and I’m probably just bitter from the nit-picking micro-wins of the LS1 community in the early 2000s.

That being said, I’ll happily make an exception and get excited about this C8 Corvette, which just became the fastest C8 in the world whilst riding the rear bumper - we’re not talking a little bit of a front wheel hop either, we’re talking front end of the car sailing down the track as the car motored on to a 8.644 @ 170.71mph.

While the outside of the car looks the business thanks to the wheel and tyre package, the inside of the car hasn’t been extensively bastardised - the C8s luxury trim is all still intact, joined by some choice, race-inspired additions.

The driveline has been enhanced with an Extreme Turbo Systems twin turbo kit that uses Precision 6870 Gen 2 turbos, which the team speculate is showing a gearbox-shattering 1450hp to the treads.

It’s worth remembering that the C8 platform is the Corvette’s first foray into mid-engine mounting, moving away from the traditional front engine, rear wheel drive configuration that has typified American muscle cars for decades. The C8 runs one of two LT engine options in the States, hooked to a Tremec DCT trans.
