With the help of our friends at Castle Hill Performance Center, we got hold of the new Herrod Motorsport high performance intercooler kit for the FPV V8 and went about the process of installing it under the bonnet.

Consisting of an air-to-water core, heat exchanger (radiator), pullies, injectors, fluid reservoir, coolant pump, SCT flash tune box and all the necessary lines, hoses and reservoirs, Dale from CHPC expected the modifications to be good for a 110kW increase in power.

Being an unobtrusive, under the bonnet, upgrade, the kit is a barely noticeable addition externally and we all commented on the day that the radiator would benefit from a black powder coating to hide its shininess, the only real clue that the car has seen some aftermarket changes. Making it an excellent upgrade for that sleeper look.

Putting the standard Falcon (a six-speed manual) on the dyno, we got a 332.8kW figure, which provided a good baseline to be able to compare the upgrade kit to. The best part of a day was spent removing the top of the motor, drilling the intake manifold, removing the front bumper for the install of the radiator and pump and mounting the fluid reservoir in the back of the engine bay.

Once the modifications were complete it was time to throw the car back onto the dyno. After a bit of tuning we were able to pump out a pretty respectable number making the whole process extremely worthwhile.
