Following up on the initial story we brought you last month, the Performance Garage team including Street Commodores Editor, Liam Quirk, traveled to Profab Motorsport Fabrications to check up on progress of this incredible race car build.
As you can see, a huge amount of the cage and double frame rail chassis has been fabricated already. The quality of workmanship from Joe and his team at Profab is amazing with every piece looking like a functional work of art.
At the moment the engine and gearbox you see are just a dummy fit for mounting and measuring purposes. Craig plans to run a similar setup to the 632ci nitrous big block that he used to great effect in his VL Walkinshaw. With this setup Craig is confident of being able to run 6 second passes in the Pro Street Blown class.
Looking under the car we also got to take a look at the custom 4-link plates which have been fitted to the chassis. These plates allow adjustability of one eighth of an inch up or down, through a multitude of points as opposed to only being able to make adjustments every three quarters of an inch. This will give Craig infinite possibilities for changes at the rear of the car, meaning he will be able to set the Monaro up to launch well regardless of the track conditions.
If you would like to read more about the build, check out the Hewitt Racing section on the Street Commodores forum, grab a copy of the next issue of Street Commodores Magazine, or keep checking back here at Performance Garage as we keep a finger on the pulse for all the latest developments.
