The sleepy town of Cootamundra in rural NSW isn’t exactly the first location that springs to mind when talking about some of the country’s quickest street cars but for one weekend a year, their airport runway becomes a battlefield for a select few.

The Motive DVD crew put together a drag battle different to most, with minimal rules and a feel much closer to the street than other events.

The surface is much slipperier than your traditional drag strip and it was awesome watching cars that would normally run into the 8s or 9s attempt to put down a veritable stampede of horsepower.

In attendance were four of the country’s toughest street GT-Rs and the pressure was on to see who would walk away on top.

Even with all-wheel drive, these guys struggled to leave the line cleanly. There is really nothing tougher than a GT-R smoking all fours.

All eyes were on JUN and RH9GTR, a showdown of epic proportions.

Owner John was confident going into the event that he would be able to hold onto the crown.

Out of all of the cars there, his R32 seemed almost at home on the slippery surface.

So far it looks to be all early model GT-Rs but that wasn’t the case at all, with the Powertune R34 ripping it up alongside its ancestors.

Normally there is a minimum horsepower requirement for entry but considering the GT-R showdown that was going down, the guys couldn’t help but allow this stock 2012 GT-R to enter.

Motive’s own Andrew Hawkins was running in his lightly modified R32 GT-R that puts out around 280kw at the wheels.

While they had the airstrip at their disposale, it would have been a waste to hold the event for just a small field of GT-Rs. For that reason the team also ran a more general drag battle, with a number of tough street cars like Angus’ turbo NSX making the trek.

One that we were really interested to see was PJ’s 605kW S13. This thing has run into the 9s at Sydney Dragway and it is only a matter of time before it dips into the 8s, quite impressive considering it’s still manual!

Another S-chassis of a different flavour was Jason’s BPROOF S15. This thing makes close to 500kW but something tells us he wasn’t as serious about times as some of the others...

That’s really the best part about this event at Cootamundra, it’s all about having fun in a safe and legal environment. Any event that collects this many awesome street cars to the one place gets a thumbs up in our book and we can’t wait until next year!
