With less one week to go until the Australian Drag Racing Nationals at Sydney Dragway, teams are scrambling to get in as much testing time at tracks around the country as they possibly can.
Last Friday saw Sydney Dragway hold their first Full Throttle Friday of the season and action came thick and fast, seeing records broken and setups honed in preparation for this epic event.
The recently purchased Rigoli Eclipse was out, with Dom having his first run behind the wheel and running a low 7-second pass.
Considering that his brother Rob ran a 6.93@201mph a couple of weeks ago, we can’t wait to see the pair get on top of this setup.
The Unigroup Engineering/SDR Motorsport 7-second Datsun coupe was out and looking smooth as always, with the team collecting data and preparing to defend their title as the country’s fastest 3/4-chassis 13B.
Things didn’t go as well for the Matt Rice in the all-motor 13B R100 known as ‘Chainsaw’, with a lack of traction off the line seeing him hit the wall and end up on the roof.
Matt walked away with a couple of bruises but is otherwise OK.
With the car currently holding the title of Australia’s fastest all-motor 13B with a 10.12@130mph, we’re sure the Race Solutions crew will have it back up and running, ready to chase single figures in no time.
Frank Oliveri’s staunch new Camaro made it’s debut and while it wasn’t out there to run serious numbers, it’s obvious from even it’s first few passes that this thing means business.
Nino and Bruno Cavallo were another pair not going all out, instead using the valuable testing time to get their 60ft and half track game down outside of competition.
Steve Bezzina made the trek up from Victoria with his tough twin-turbo XW, running high 8s and regularly carrying the fronts to the 100ft with ease.
Also lifting the nose was Matt with his gorgeous Mazda 1300. This thing is a featherweight champ and looks good to boot! Check out a feature we did on it a little while back here.
The VL crew were out in force as well, with this incredibly tidy streeter from Maatouks equally capable of laying down a single-figure pass or heading out for a cruise with some mates.
PAC Performance are normally know for their rotors but it seems they can squeeze some power out of an inline-six as well. This beastly VL certainly had a bit of power behind it, launching up onto the back wheels with a heap of wheel spin before crossing the centre line.
Also from PAC was this blue beast that put on the classic rotor show we’ve come to expect; a big skid, crazy two-step flames and a big wheelstand off the line.
The distance this thing could carry those wheels surprised us as well, almost hitting half track with the front left cocked.
The real Pac Performance hammer blow was George and the team campaigning the shop Mazda 6 SP and confirming yet again that they are the fastest in the rotary world.
The PAC vs Puerto Rico rivalry has been raging for some time now and PAC finally took back the speed record in the last fortnight by a few tenths, flying through the traps at 217.63mph
As we all know though, that’s not how PAC roll and George came out on Friday determined to smash the record and that’s exactly what he did.
Blazing through the traps at a mind-boggling 220mph, PAC Performance have certainly given the Puerto Ricans a big challenge speed-wise and considering the ET record is only .05 of a second quicker, it won’t be long until world’s quickest and fastest rotary title rightfully returns to our shores.
The team were understandably ecstatic but judging by past performance, there won’t be any relaxation back at the shop, with records sure to tumble sooner rather than later.
Get your backside trackside this weekend as the Australian Nationals rock Sydney Dragway!
