Turbosmart’s Electronic 76mm Wastegate Is The Highest Flowing Ever

Turbocharging technology has come a bloody long way, and at the forefront of that for the last three decades has been the Aussie legends at Turbosmart.

Designed and manufactured in Sydney, the champions there have continuously blown away the rest of the industry with their innovation. Now, they’ve gone big once again, creating the highest flowing external wastegate in the world: the StraightGate76.

What's so good about Turbosmart's electronic wastegate range?

They do away with mechanical springs and valves, replaced by an electronically controlled servo motor. That gives perfect boost control without the unreliability of CO2 lines and bottles, and you'll never have to change a wastegate spring again!

It's also good for flow. In the case of the StraightGate76, it flows 723.7cfm/20.49m3 per minute. If you know you know, that’s just downright absurd! It’s the biggest offering in their StraightGate range, which can also be had in 40mm and 50mm sizes.

Greg Tsakiridis' twin turbocharged Pro Mod Mustang runs a single SG76 on his intake piping to regulate manifold pressure. The turbos spin flat-out all of the time and excess boost pressure is bled from the the intake side. This is significantly different to most wastegates that regulate the flow of exhaust gasses to the turbocharger itself.

The technology behind this brilliance is a simple as it is brutally efficient. The zero-offset, self-balancing nature of the valve ensures smooth operation with near-linear control.

That gives you far better command than the old mechanical style, allowing finite adjustments from no boost to all of it.

Can a Turbosmart electronic wastegate be used for street cars?

This isn’t technology designed just for race cars, the liquid cooling for the actuator assembly allowing the StraightGate76 and it’s smaller siblings to be used in street applications with no complications.

Turbosmart’s StraightGate electronic technology has won multiple awards on their debuts at the SEMA show for several years now, wowing the industry on the world stage to score silverware. Over the years they’ve won both the Best Engineered and Best New Product across the range with their electronic wastegates in 2019, 2021 and 2022.

How much does the Turbosmart electronic StraightGate cost?

The cost for the StraightGate76 is $2,245.00rrp. To find out more and check out the StraightGate range, click here.
