This Ford Van Just Chopped A Formula 1 Car And Took On Pikes Peak

The latest Ford SuperVan is the wildest yet, with a ridiculous carbon-fibre rear wing and three electric motors making over 1400 horses – and it just chopped a Formula 1 car and raced in the clouds.

The latest Ford SuperVan 4 made its debut at the 2022 Goodwood Festival of Speed, and now its recieved a handful of upgrades to tackle the nearly 13-mile course that rises over 4,700 feet to the mountain’s summit at 14,115 feet. The 4.2 edition copped some major upgrades including a new carbon front splitter and rear wing to help tackle the 156 turns on the mountain, while also stripping out some of the weight from the chassis.

The Ford SuperVan 4.2 is based on the Ford e-Transit Custom and features three electric motors that spits out over 1400 horsepower. It also has an updated braking system that is able to regeneratively brake up to 600kw. It's got a set of carbon-ceramic brake discs and rides on forged magnesium wheels wrapped in some Pirelli slick tyres. It's got the usual racecar treatment, with a fully stripped interior, updated driveshafts, perspex windscreen and the rest to ensure the van is as light as absolutely possible.

Ford stuck with driver Romain Dumas who managed to clock a 8:47.682 placing first in the Pikes Peak Open division, which was the fastest electric vehicle up the mountain and an overall second-place finish.

Not only did the SuperVan 4.2 take on the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, it recently showed off its straight line power in a drag-race against a fleet of Red Bull sponsored machinery. NZ's Liam Lawsom piloted the championship winning RB8, while Dani Pedrosa rode the KTM RC16 MotoGP bike. WRX champion Timmy Hansen got behind the wheel of the Peugeot-Hansen 208 rallycross car, while WRC was represented by Adrien Fourmaux in a Ford Puma.
