This Custom Toyota Ute Is One Of Australia's Wildest 4x4s

Taylor swapped his lawnmower for this old Toyota Stout, and turned it into an all out 4x4 weapon!

If there's one thing we've learned over the years, it's that Aussies build some pretty wild custom cars. From the best of the best at Meguiar's MotorEx to the insane burnout cars you'll see at events all over the country, we've got a pretty unique taste of what makes something cool. While we're not usually a 4x4 publication, we reckon Taylor's 1969 Toyota Stout is worth a bit of love.

The story of this Toyota ute began when Taylor decided he'd swap his lawnmower for a Toyota Stout owned by his Uncle. The initial plan was simple enough - work on the the Stout and maybe do a few little mods, but as is all too common with us car nuts, things got a little bit out of hand.

Taylor decided that he'd turn the little ute into an all out 4x4 machine, merging the Stout with the frame and running gear of an 80 Series Landcruiser. He'd also got his hands on another Toyota Stout which donated its rear tub to the cause amongst a few other bits. Throw in a few spare parts from a newer HiLux, and what you have is one of the most badass looking 4x4s around.

Taylor reckons it's one of the coolest off-road machines he's had a steer of thanks to its lightweight frame, combined with its low center of gravity. With twin locks, 35" tyres, and some heavy suspension work, it's turned out to be a killer car to take off-road.

"I'm really happy with how it drives. It's so light, and all the weight is nice and low, so it kind of feels like a side-by-side or go-cart out in the scrub. It's kind of like the car that I can take on the harder trails, the gnalier stuff." Taylor said.

In the vast landscape of Australian custom builds, we reckon this little home-build Toyota Stout is a pretty cool machine. Check out more on Taylor's 1969 Toyota Stout in the video below!
