Street Machine Summernats 35 DAY ONE (VIDEO)

Street Machine Summernats 35 has kicked off for another year in Canberra, with a record breaking 2800 car entries flooding through the gates of EPIC. Thursday kicked off the four-day party with 500 of the toughest street machines around parading Northbourne Avenue.

Inside the venue, our very own birthday boy JBens was the first down Skid Row, after Kyle Douglas threw him the keys to the 1300hp+ tyre shredding machine, LUXIFER. The party continued down Skid Row all day, as hundreds of tyres met their maker and thousands of punters soaked up all the action (slushie or two in hand).

The action on the Rod Shop Burnout Pad kicked into gear with the one and only king of burnouts Gary Myers in his iconic GM176 Mustang laying down some rubber for an exhibition skid. By total Suprise, Burnout icons Matt Abood, Gary Myers, John Peterson, Chrissie Corkhill, Peter Gray and Peter Grmusa were inducted into the all new 'John Peterson Burnout Hall of Fame' recognising their contribution to the great sport we all know and love.

With only three spots up for grabs, and 30 cars eyeing a spot in the Masters, the Wildcard Shootout competition ran high. It was an all-blown Commodore podium with Billy Seton in 'ONTICK', Chris Orchard's 'THE OG' and Jesse Johnson in 'KILLAK' taking the top three.

Following the Wildcard shootout, the Meguiar's Great Uncover saw close to 30 brand new elite-level rides unveiled for what was the biggest unveil in Summernats history. Stand out cars like Howard Astill's BOSSXC, Carolyn Hayes Torana and Cameron McNabb's NORTY Capri really set the standard in the hall.
