The Super 6 at Meguiar's MotorEx is one of the most prestigious awards to have in the world of show cars. This is where the top six of all the Superstars are carefully selected - the MotorEx judges really had their work cut out of them this year. We present to you MotorEx 2023's Super 6.
Taking out every gold trophy was the Pat’s Pro Restos build, Daniel Morton’s Green XY Falcon ‘FORGED’. This special unveil undeniably took out MotorEx Grand Master of the show, standing out in every category with its sleek body shape and extensive fabrication. Every part of this build was hand made with only 400mm in the centre on the roof skin left untouched.
Frank Darmanin’s stunning Blue VH was a worthy winner of the Super 6 award. It’s certainly one of the toughest and well presented Holden VH Commodores on the elite circuit. With a completely detailed undercarriage and a classy interior this build has lots of impact. The bonnet itself is truly impressive, using the original metal to create the reverse cowl, keeping that classic swage in the front to perfection. Last seen on the Summernats 35 Grand Champion pad competing against the best in the country, this beast was built to drive.
Craig McKenzie has worked hard from his last show when he unveiled at Summernats earlier this year, pulling down his HR Holden Ute and freshening a few things up ready for the most prestigious show of this year. He didn’t disappoint, taking out category awards and displaying his lowrider bikes in the Show Car Pavilion. This clean white Holden has loads of fabrication and a stunning detailed undercarriage, with some classy bronze custom Charlie Hutton brown/copper.
Brian Imlach’s 1934 Chevrolet has once again been a showstopper this year after doing lots of elite shows around the country. Steve Aldrick from Deluxe Rod Shop has created a truly amazing chocolate brown hot rod. Fitted with a blown LS2 with lots of polished detail and flawless custom trim, they have also created a stunning display that also has taken out awards across Australia. When it comes to class and style this Chevy has it in spades - a credit to Steve and the team.
Matt McIntosh’s name has certainly been mentioned quite a few times since unveiling his heavily fabricated Holden HQ Statesman at this year’s Summernats. The HQ stands out with its beautiful grey metallic paintwork and its very tidy set of rose gold/copper three-piece Simmons wheels. The undercarriage is a thing of beauty, with no centimetre spared attention. The fabrication overall is next level with lowered sill panels and custom engine bay which houses a twin-turbo 350ci Small Block Chev. Matt was busy with not only one car this year but three cars over three different competitions, winning awards in two in body and fabrication.
Peter Lewis’ XC Falcon built by Howard Astill is a head turner to say the least, with great innovation and stunning blue custom PPG blue paint scheme to match. Well documented on YouTube by Howard, BOSS XC is another marvel of what automotive limits are - there simply are none. Under the bonnet sits a 429ci Jon Kasse Boss 9 all aluminium Big Block which is coupled with an FG Falcon six-speed ZF automatic. The FG and XC ‘hybrid’ body incorporates a custom adaption of an FG Falcon interior including dash, console and seats - albeit very much changed from what you see in an FG. There’s so much more than meets the eye with this car, and the best way to know more about it is to watch on Howard’s video channel.
