Competing under the Valley Services/Scrappers umbrella, Salinas put down a mind-boggling 3.647 second pass over the 1000 foot stretch, registering a speed of 338.00mph (544km/h!). This not only secured his position as the top qualifier for the third time this year, but also marked his 14th career P1 qualification.
The pass saw Salinas clock 300.80mph to the 1/8th mile, the first to ever do so. This feat made him the pioneer member of the "Phillips Connect 300 to the 1/8" league, also rewarding him with a cool $30,000 bonus. Impressively, this sprint became the fifth-fastest run ever recorded in Top Fuel history.
Post-run, Salinas commented — “The track was amazing. Thanks to Rob and Arron getting this thing ready for us – I never get involved with that, but I had this ‘all or nothing’ thing that we’ve been doing.”.
“We’ve been working on this for a while and our car has been close several times in testing. We knew we were going to do it, we just didn’t know when. Tonight was the perfect time to do it. The car seemed to like what we’re doing, and Rob and Aaron are amazing every run. we are a real team and I’m just happy to be part of what they’ve put together.
“We’ve been close and to put together a run like this, it is awesome. These are the types of things we’re out here for and what it’s all about. What an amazing run.”
Mike's record-breaking pass comes three-decades after Kenny Bernstein's groundbreaking 300-mph over a 1/4 mile in 1992, driving the iconic Budweiser King dragster, where he recorded an astounding 301.70 mph.
