Road To Red CentreNATS 09 Champion (video)

This year's Red CentreNATS Champion chase saw 14 diverse cars battle it out for the top-gong prize. With everything from a blown big-block Mopar to a little Isuzu Bellett, this year had it all. If you aren't familiar with how the title chase goes down, each vehicle gets a score from the judging crew on things like paint, finish and innovation, but they've also got to be able to drive 'em. 

The driving elements of the scoring takes up a majority of the overall points scored, and it consists of drag racing, motorkhana and finally an obstacle course on grass. The competition was fierce with standouts like Paul Tinning's extraordinary twin-turbo Viper V10 XP Falcon, Lee Povey’s seven second Holden VL Calais, Judith Menso's LX Torana hatch, and Brent Murray's impressive Dodge Dart, a previous Grand Champ title-holder.

Chief Judge Owen Webb had his hands full trying to pick a winner this year, with the scoring coming down to just a one point difference between first and second.
