Rachael Durbz has had a passion for everything automotive since she can remember, especially a love for all Chevy C10 trucks. You can imagine her excitement when she happened to stumble across one of the rarer trucks in Australia - a massive 1963 Chevy C10 Panel Truck!
Purchasing the C10 from a chilled surfy fella in Noosa (who used the truck for carting around his surf boards), the truck was shipped to WA with no plans but to cruise it. How quickly that changed. At the time Rach returned from her first ever SEMA trip late November and went straight from the airport to collect her new ride.
Being a painter from the age of 15, Rachael couldn’t live with the C10 being primer grey. What you see now was only meant to be a quick colour change and clearly that turned into something a little more. Choosing not to go back to bare metal, Rach got stuck straight into the panel work, which included countless hours of blocking and getting those side panels and lines dead straight.
Weekdays after work and every weekend through the Christmas holidays, Rach focused all of her time into the truck - things like paint gun in hand 4am, priming the C10 Christmas morning! The custom House Of Kolor mix was created by Rach. Its name ‘Dirty Martini’, certainly fits the vibe of the car, colour and presence. The interior of the C10 was complimented with a contrasting, off-white mix of ‘Milk Money’. Pro Stitch Trimming gave it a once over with tan weathered leather, making this five-seater delivery extra cool!
Rach laid down the final colour at good mate Flynn’s Refinishing Workshop following a week of flat sanding. This was then followed up by a week of buffing to bring up the shine to what you see today.
The C10 also received a complete CPP big brake and suspension upgrade from the legends at WA Suspension, dropping it 6 inches and helping set off the 18-inch prototype BCI deep dish rally style rims that are also coated in ‘Milk Money’.
Family always in mind throughout the build, Rach named the Chevy C10 Panel Truck ‘Betty’ after her nanna, fitting for the van’s era and build. After everything the Panel Truck finally debuted at Motorvation 36 in Perth. Now Rach’s truck has made it back to the East Coast, you can expect it to appear at many shows around the Gold Coast area. The journey of this awesome Chevrolet C10 continues!
