Pro Street Shoutout!

Pro Street Shoutout!

Round 2 of the Australian Pro Street Association’s Pro Steet Shootout has come and gone, bringing their exciting style of heads up drag racing to Queensland’s Willowbank Raceway.

Over 120 of Australia's toughest Pro Street cars and bikes took to the strip to settle some scores and it made for an exciting day of racing.

The Outlaw 10.5 guys put on a good show as always, with many of the cars running well into the 6s including the Staunch Racing Camaro.

The team had their sights set on the 10.5 world record (6.52 @ 210mph) but unfortunately some minor engine damage after blowing the tyres off saw Johnny Wilson and Simon Kryger watching from the sidelines for the rest of the weekend.

With the Staunch Team out of the picture, Jason Donnelly had a clear shot at the trophy with his crazy blown injected ’63 Corvette. He was top qualifier and the car ran consistently in the 6.9s all day, giving Jason the quickest ET of the meet with a 6.917.

In the final, Jason came up against Tony Wedlock in his 2J powered Aurion who unfortunately had some troubles and rolled through the traps, handing the win to the ‘Vette. Even though Tony came in as Runner-Up, he still managed to nab the title of fastest pass when he roared into the deep end at a whopping 212.59mph!

The Pro Street Blown class also had an interesting fight for the top spot, with mechanical problems taking out Dom Luppino’s twin-turbo Mustang as the favourite and seeing Leigh Darke’s bottled Camaro take out the win with an 8.3 @ 162mph in the final.

This was up against Jason Loane’s tough blown injected XD that was a slouch in comparison, running a 8.9 @ 130mph.

With neither of these cars listed in the APSA Pro Street Blown top ten it really proves that in the heads up racing style of Pro Street, the win is well and truly up for grabs depending on performance on the day.

Another interesting entrant in Pro Street Blown was Jason Andrew’s wheel standing HJ. It may look pretty in pink but it’s certainly no nancy, reefing the front wheels up with ease over and running consistently low 9s, with a best of 9.1 @ 147mph.

As always, Joe Gauci showed dominance in the Modified Street Blown class, combined with the Radial Outlaw class once again to boost numbers and it has been a real hit with the crowds. The Profab Motorsport Fabrications Cortina is an absolute animal and was out in front right from the beginning, qualifying first before winning the final with a 7.4 @ 196mph.

His frightfully fast pass in the final combined with an earlier 197.22mph run saw him come out with the title of both quickest and fastest in the class, which isn’t too bad on top of a trophy!

Mick Voase came runner up in his downright demonic 1200hp, alcohol-slurping, Procharged 555ci BBC powered Torana, running a 7.8 @ 187mph.

The reverse cowl bonnet does a good job of hiding exactly how crazy this thing is; except for the huge bell mouth intake scoop poking it’s head out!

The great thing about these Pro Street events is the variety of cars in attendance and the fact that for the vast majority of them, single figure passes are pretty standard.

We couldn’t possibly hope to bring you every make and model that was there for a closer look at the variety, check out the video below.

Round 3 of the Pro Street Shootout will be hitting Sydney Dragway on May 19th and judging from Round 2, it will be an event that shouldn’t be missed!
