Porsche Unveils The Ultimate Track Only 911

Unveiling the epitome of racing prowess, Porsche has showcased a tantalizing, track-exclusive variant of its iconic 911: the GT3 R Rennsport.

Unveiled early this week, Porsche's latest track-only carbon fibre bodied 911 GT3 Rennsport is essentially the pinnacle of the 911 lineage. This revelation took place at the heart of the Porsche community's celebration, the Rennsport Reunion, hosted at the iconic Laguna Seca race circuit in California.

The GT3 R Rennsport is built on a foundation “essentially identical” to the GT3 racecar. It flaunts a cutting-edge double wishbone suspension in the front, complemented by a multi-link configuration at the rear. The five-way adjustable shock absorbers add to its adaptability on the tarmac. And for those concerned about how it all sticks to the track? Each of these 77 masterpieces will be shod in exclusive Michelin race tires.

Traditional side mirrors make way for innovative fender-mounted cameras, their feeds relayed to dual screens nestled in the cockpit. The interiors themselves are a testament to racing purity: an FIA-certified roll cage encircles a singular bucket seat equipped with a full harness. The driver's interface boasts an all-digital dashboard, an array of controls reminiscent of Porsche’s GT3 racers, and a steering wheel all the necessary buttons and dials to push for lap times.

With exclusivity at its core, Porsche plans to build just 77 units, each sporting a price tag starting from $1 million. At the heart of this beast lies a 4.2-liter flat-six engine, a kin of the powertrain found in the GT3 R. However, without the limitations posed by motorsport's Balance of Performance metrics, this engine boasts a robust 611 horsepower, a jump from the race-ready 564. Automotive enthusiasts can expect an auditory delight as it revs to a breathtaking 9,400 rpm. Tipping the scales, the Rennsport aims to maintain a lean stature, weighing in at a mere 1,240 kg (2,733 lbs) and accommodating a singular racing seat.
