Pommy Tuning House Develops A Fix For Common VW Amarok Issue

It was missing a V12 engine, that's all.

The less said about VW Amarok owners, the better. But since you asked, aren’t they kind of like the vegans of the car world? They’ll go so far out of their way to work their Amarok in to an unrelated conversation that they might as well have packed a lunch.

UK based tuning firm Darkside Developments have performed the second greatest upgrade I believe you could ever make to an Amarok (the first being binding and gagging the owner and stuffing them in the tray so that you can’t hear them talk about their Amarok).

They married veedub’s hit-or-miss ute - a single cab variant imported from Australia, would you believe - with an Audi Q7’s 6L V12 that they just happened to have lying around the workshop.

A tale as old as time.

It must be said that the 1,000Nm Audi 12-pot looks right at home in the Amarok’s engine bay, however after watching the amount of gas-axing and cutting involved in their engine installation video (linked below) it’s far from a straight forward swap!

Behind the monster Audi donk is a T56 Magnum 6-speed manual box, and to streamline the conversion the team 3D modeled the entire Amarok engine bay as well as the V12/T56 hybrid combo’, completing the conversion in the 3D modeling software before they attempted it in real life.

The car will be converted to rear wheel drive which will no doubt make it the most fun Amarok to drive, and remains a work in progress.
