Old Vs. New Skylines

Two iconic GT-Rs, a classic R32 owned by Justin Fox and a meticulously restored Hak replica owned by Kevin San, are the ultimate dream for Skyline enthusiasts.
Old Vs. New Skylines

Talk about a dream day down in the studio! These two GT-Rs are prominent players on the Sydney scene and two of the finest Skylines you’re likely to see anywhere.

The R32 GT-R belongs to Justin Fox, the genius behind Zen Garage, JDM Style Tuning and more, while the Hak replica (2000GT) is owned by Kevin San. Together, they are a Skyline fan’s wet dream.

The Hak rep' has been a real labour of love for Kevin. For many, this era remains Skyline prime, and the sound of that L28 kicking into life and letting rip is something everyone needs to hear at least once. You won’t believe the effort that Kevin has gone to get the rep up to scratch. Most would have abandoned the project long ago.

The motor currently puts out around 198rwhp via a 3L L28 that has been significantly modified top to bottom. It is more or less custom everything inside. Although Kevin’s owned much more modern rides, for him the Hak is a car that lives and breathes. It has ‘soul’. It’s been a long, hard road to get it to this state, but he’s over the moon with the result.

Here’s HoonTV talking to main man Kevin about the build. He is full of gold when it comes to everything nostalgia and resto, knowing every nook and cranny of his car. The journey from Japan to Australia is interesting enough, but it’s tales from the road and show that really interest us.

A little more modern is the 2.6L RB26DETT six that power’s Justin’s infamous R32 GT-R. It’s also received heavy mods but has not compromised on either performance or response to sit at a current detuned state of 300wkW. That might sound low in the scheme of 1000hp GT-Rs these days, but in the driver/passenger seat it is more than enough, believe us.

The rest of the R32 has been built with pure purpose in mind, just as capable on the track as it is on the street and featuring AP Racing brakes, Rays wheels, carbon driveshaft, Brides and more to make it a true all-rounder. How about those plates, too?

As you’d expect, there is a great more many stories and tid-bits behind these two street heros, so be sure to grab upcoming issues of both Performance Garage and Performance/Japanese Imports to get the full story.
