Grudges were settled at Sydney Dragway over the weekend, with the final round of the 2011/2012 NSW Championship Series run and won.
As the organisers have decided to move their championship to a more conventional calendar year format, this event also counted as Round 2 of the 2012 season so with points towards two championships on the line, competition was fierce!
This series revolves around bracket racing, meaning that cars running 17s or 7s could all be equally competitive as long as they were consistent and stuck to their dial-ins.
That being said, plenty of competitors were running well into the single figure zone.
Josh Boscovich’s XA coupe looked tough as nails on the day and with a dial in of 9.20, he certainly meant business!
Troy Papadopoulos was also flying the Ford flag, running low 7s in his ED Falcon right up until the finals, where mechanical issues saw him hand the Supercharged Outlaws win over to Norm McCormack's FED.
Lee Docherty was another to hand over the win in the finals in his 13B-powered MX-5. This makes one win and two runners-up from three starts though and with a blistering 7.4@179mph pass, Lee's not complaining.
Graham Blake managed to keep a cool head in the finals though, taking home a trophy thanks to a 7.9@147mph.
It wasn’t all about the single figure zone though, with this tough looking Beetle running mid 11s.
Lee Crow’s ‘Rolla is a beastly little bugger, not quite breaking the 8-second barrier.
Looking around, Fords really dominated the field, although Aussie muscle of all sorts was well represented.
This tough tonner got fairly out of shape off the line, keeping the crowd on the edge of their seats and properly entertained.
Whether you were into old...
Or new.
Import...
Or Aussie.
Chassis cars...
Or dragsters.
Hell, even if you are into bikes, this event had all bases covered.
There were wheelstands galore...
And some tough skids before them, enough to keep any diehard drag fan excited.
Anthony Maatouk’s famous VL GOD is a regular crowd pleaser but after nabbing the top qualifier position, mechanical difficulties saw him fail to stage in Round 1 of eliminations.
All in all though, it was a great day for all involved.
While some may have gone home without a trophy, the fact that this also counted as Round 2 for the 2012 season put many in a good position for the upcoming rounds.
Round 3 will be held on the 14th of July at Sydney Dragway and we’re sure that this series has many more exciting passes to come.
If you’re free that weekend, it will be worthwhile heading down but if not, as always, keep an eye on Performance Garage for all of the action!
